Get High On The Capitol Steps in Salem

A golden statue of a male dressed as a pioneer holding an ax is seen atop the capitol in Salem Oregon, high above the tree lined mountain horizon

If you’re going to be in Salem tomorrow and want to celebrate your weed-ependence, stop by the State Capitol.

To usher in Measure 91 and to celebrate marijuana legalization, organizers have reserved the Capitol steps. (The actual steps, not that horrible NPR-wet-dream politico singing troupe. Seriously, who enjoys that?)

As the press release explains:

“The Oregon State Capitol Steps have been reserved for Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for the HISTORIC 1st day of legalization of recreational Marijuana (Cannabis) in Oregon.

The “CANNABIS EXTRAVA-GANJA” event will celebrate the passage of Measure 91, which legalized recreational Marijuana in the state!

The Cannabis Extrava-Ganja event aims to demonstrate to all, that the people supporting legalization are ORGANIZED, CAPABLE and RESPECTFUL of diverse and multiple opinions, while holding a PEACEFUL assembly, in a CELEBRATORY atmosphere regarding the ending of failed PAST Marijuana Policy at large, and the ending of Marijuana prohibition in general, for the benefit of ALL Oregon residents.

Everyone is invited to this NON ALCOHOLIC event. PUBLIC consumption of Marijuana remains illegal…”

Wow, that’s a whole lot of words in capital letters.

The event is even listed on the Oregon Legistlature website and everything.

If you really want to stick it to the man, I guess you could alway bring a one-hitter, but they do state that “PUBLIC consumption of Marijuana remains illegal.”

The event is free.
